This blog is designed to enable viewers to post their comments on various subjects related to The Torrington Company's demise as a separate corporate entity. We will try to answer the question "Why?" and hopefully provide guidance to other Companies who might find themselves in a similar situation. We will also try to be a vehicle for alumni to express their thoughts

Back in the old days when you started in the Internal Audit Dept (remember Dick Greeley?) they made you spend a few months in each of the existing departments to learn the systems , General Accounting, Cost , Tax Dept , Accounts Receivable etc.
I happened to be in the Accounts Payable Dept which was on the second floor of the Excelsior Office Building. There were a few empty desks spread around the mostly female staff. I was at one of those desks and next to me was Alan Mylchreest, the financial man, visiting from Coventry, England.
Out of the clear blue Alan spoke out “Anyone have a rubber” and so I reached over to pass him my eraser while all around couldn’t stop giggling.
Across from that same Accounts Payable Dept was the Men’s room. I don’t know how it happened but as I was hitching up my pants in the toilet stall, somehow, the end of the roll of toilet paper got caught in my belt. Didn’t notice a thing as I washed my hands and proceeded back to my desk, all the while the roll unraveled behind me. Funny, Yes! Embarrassing too!

Ha – Re: Tom Bennett:
I worked as Secretary to Scott Duncan, Steve Edmondson, Dave Gridley, JP Vincent, etc.
One of my main functions was all of the Business Plans that were to be approved by Bennett. Just some memories - Our managers had to, of course, present many to Bennett. We were more paranoid about lines not starting on the same lines throughout the department for different managers than $$$$ expectations in the contents.
And we would always receive the word from the Receptionist Bennett was on his way over so we could take all of the papers off our desk to look “very” neat!!!! I guess it was more important than looking busy!!! Anyway – some fun memories….
I LOVED Business Management and all of the Focus- product analysis reports we developed. As long as the Industry Managers had responsibility for the product plans I always had job security.
Judy…..
I got stuck for a HUGE dinner bill with Jim Plawecki, Rollie Goodall and myself on a business trip to Tyger River.
I guess even my boss was in on it..
