Happy New Year ! Although I did not contact you for so long, I occasionally read your email to find you are doing well. Thank you very much for keeping me informed of Torrington Alumina. By the way,I want to know the new email addresses of Tom Francis and Jack Conboy. Although I know their old email addresses, I can not contact them using the addresses. If you can, please help me.
Let me using this occasion to tell my situation. We are so far so good to enjoy the life even in quieter mode. It is good for us that my wife, Yoshiko is still healthy in 73 years old. We stayed at Takasaki usually and went to Tokyo only 8 or 9 times without going to any other places during the year of 2017. In Tokyo, we met our family members, close friends and went to several music concerts. My pleasures in Takasaki were meetings with my English conversation friends, going to jazz cafes, attending to NTC events and meeting with a few NTC/school friends in daily life, although I had to quit several hobbies such as golfing, swimming, vegetable gardening and long trip during last several years. Thus, although we did not have big events this year as usually of these days, we had some good occasions in November and December. We had a visit by a Canadian family in November whom I taught Japanese language around 10 years ago. I also visited to two University festivals in Takasaki where I could come back to student times after long. We could go to two classic music concerts; A Russian symphonic orchestra and NHK in Tokyo in December. The area of Takasaki station has been reconstructed dramatically since several years ago. During 2017, some of the major projects such as a new athletic hall and a shopping mall construction were finished and a new music theater and a convention center were being built. Thus, Takasaki city center has become busier and we are enjoying the new restaurants and food shopping often there, now. It is good for us to enjoy the foods/meals under some regulation for my health problems.
We are in winter to have a common winter weather here. I am watching TV news of the big fires in West Coast in last December and the snow storm in Southern districts and East Coast right now. Please take care of yourself to have a good life even under the tough winter time. Sending very best wishes from Takasaki.
Your old friend. Aki

Dear Akiyama san
It is so good to hear from you and that you and your wife even in our advancing years, continue to enjoy your lives in Takasaki and Tokyo. It does sound like the area is undergoing a booming and prosperous economy.
I had the pleasure of visiting your beautiful country in December. It was on an organized tour
that took us to South Korea as well Although the weather was cold, it was exciting to
visit in Tokyo, the views from Tokyo tower, the Shinshoji Temple, the Tsukiji Fish Market,
Asakusa, Shibuya, Toba, the Ise Shrines, Kyoto and the Arashiyama district. A lot to cover in a
short time but all so very enjoyable.
In the New Year my wish is for you both to remain healthy and continue to enjoy life.
Your friend from the USA,
Norm Massicotte
Ps the email address I have for Tom Francis is
tmfran99@gmail.com
For Jack Conboy, I have the address for his wife Anne, hopefully that is helpful.

Norm,
Greetings from Wisconsin. Don’t know that we ever met, but I was in the Sales Force from 1975 - 2003. Assuming you’re still managing it, would you please add me to the distribution list. Thanks and enjoy the winter! Regards, Don

Hi Norm
Here is the flyer for the 2018 Big T Gathering on December 7th at Crystal Peak. Looking forward to a night of great food, friends and fellowship. Please post when you have a chance. I will put more info on the Big T Friends FB site when I get a chance. Please let me know any questions.
Thanks in advance, Skip (860) 601-2366

In other, sad news I learned last night about the passing of Tom Francis. Tom was a mentor, a wonderful co-worker and a dear friend. It is hard to imagine the world without him. He was a true gentleman.
So far I haven’t seen an obituary but here is the message received from Barbara. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family.

From Barbara
It is with a heavy heart that I am letting you know that Tom passed away the afternoon of September 11. His death was due to an accidental drowning in Lake Massasecum. The boys are here with me, and I've had family and friends visiting. The immediate family will have a private memorial. Please donate in his memory to your favorite charity. Barbara Francis

Hello Norman,
thank you for the update. Although its not pleasant news to hear, it does offer a moment to reflect about the good people I came in contact with at the Big T and the good time I had working for the company.
Two obituaries I find missing, concern Ted Crotty and Jon Johnson, both of whom passed away last year. Jon started with me in Sales training back in 1975 and while the opportunities to spend time together were rare, we did make the most of them when we had the chance. Ted, I got to know in early 1983, when I was assigned to the LA office, after a 4 year period of working for the company in Germany. Ted was my sales manager in LA and in that capacity both a mentor and friend. I will always cherish the 3 years that I spend working for him and all the fun we had together during that period.
While I did find an obituary for Jon (see attachment), I could not locate one for Ted. Although Ted always tried to keep his age a secret, I do think that he was 95, when he passed away on 12 July 2017. He too went through Torrington's sales training program and served in several locations around the country, including Atlanta, San Francisco, Cleveland and LA. His biggest hobby was flying. To maintain an adequate level of fitness, he faithfully did his so called "Canadien Rocky Mtn Police Exercises". The fact that he was still flying past his 90th birthday and accumulated a total of some 9000+ flying hours.
Hi Jeff, anything that you can or want to add to this? Jogi
