Torrington - Bruce A. “Etche” Etchegary, 68, peacefully passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at his home with his wife and daughter by his side. He was the beloved husband of Deborah (Follert) Etchegary for 44 years. He was born May 21, 1950, in Torrington, CT, son of the late Frank and Mildred (Massut) Etchegary. He was a graduate of Oliver Wolcott Technical High School.
He then was employed at the Torrington Company for over 30 years and continued his employment with them when they became the Timken Company. He was currently employed by Modelcraft Company in Plymouth, CT as a Machinist. He enjoyed nature, bird watching, hiking, and was a fan of all sports. His hobbies over the years included photography, fishing, wood working, and metal detecting. After work he would like to relax in his recliner, play with his cat Jesse James, and watch Jeopardy with his wife. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Etchegary of Torrington; one brother, John Etchegary of Waterbury, CT as well as several nieces, nephews and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Alan and a sister Gail. He was a quiet man with a great sense of humor and was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. North Granby, CT - Antonio “Tony” Villareale, 91, CT, formerly of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away Monday, October 15, 2018, at his home. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to the late Marzia (Parente) Villareale who preceded him in death on February 11, 2018. Mr. Villareale was born August 4, 1927, in Canicatti, Sicily, province of Agrigento and came to Torrington in 1955, where he met his beloved wife. He was the son of the late Antonio and Germana (Petruzelli) Villareale.
He was employed by The Torrington Company as a carpenter and millwright until his retirement in 1991. He is survived by one son, Joseph Villareale of Torrington; three daughters, Rosemarie MacNeal (Kevin) of New Bern, NC, Diane Woodruff (Robert) of Morris, CT, Lisa DuBois (Scott) of North Granby, CT; a brother, Frank Villareale of Pompano Beach, FL; six grandchildren, Brandan Holbrook (Caroline), Lindsay Shea (Connor), Megan O’Brien (Will), Steven and Melissa Woodruff, and Sienna DuBois. He was preceded in death by a brother Salvatore and two sisters, Rita and Maria Villareale. He was a longtime member of the Torrington Elks Lodge, and the Sons of Italy Society. Tony was a great storyteller often captivating his audience with his animated descriptions. A jack of all trades, he was a master carpenter who took pride in his work, loved cooking, growing vegetables in his garden and making great homemade wine. Tony was a kind, selfless gentleman who was always there to lend a hand. He was a true family man, who adored his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling with his family, spending winters in Florida, Italian food and music, dancing with his beloved wife and playing the Italian card game, Scopa, for hours as he did the night before he passed. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018, with the cortege leaving at 10:00 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery. Torrington- Marianna Bakula, 79, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2018 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Bakula. Mrs. Bakula was born in Wydmusy, Poland on January 9, 1939, daughter of the late Franciszek and Marianna (Dykty) Brozska, and had been a Torrington resident since 1962.
She was a retired bearing inspector with the Torrington Company, retiring with 30 years of service. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Torrington, for many years. Mrs. Bakula enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, and most importantly, spending time with her family. Survivors include five sons, Joseph Bakula and his wife Cathy of Crossville, TN, John Bakula of New Britain, Stanley Bakula and his wife Debra of Torrington, Mark Bakula and his wife Sandy of Torrington, and Christopher Bakula and his wife Kristen of New Hartford; two daughters, Theresa Bakula of Goshen and Susan Allen and her husband Christopher of Castalian Springs, TN; a brother, Walter Brozska of Poland; a sister, Teresa Ceberek of New Britain; 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bakula was predeceased by a son, Richard Bakula. Torrington - Jennie Solywoda, 80, died peacefully Saturday, November 17th, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter Solywoda. A lifelong Torrington resident, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Stella (Zulaski) Kunicki.
She was a member of Saint Mary Church and attended Torrington Schools and was a retiree of the Torrington Company with over 30 years of service. She loved Our Lord and was an excellent cook, enjoying knitting, crocheting, and gardening. She was a devoted wife, and loved her family and two precious granddaughters. She spent many summers admiring the beauty of Cape Cod seashore. She traveled to Poland in 1987 to see Pope John Paul 11 with her late sister Stella Kunicki. Left to mourn her passing is daughter Laura Sherwood and husband Gary, granddaughters Heather and Rebecca Sherwood, a sister Josephine Banasik, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers Stanley and John Kunicki and sisters Stella Kunicki, Anna Zak, Helen Hyber, Wanda Strzeszkowski, nephews Richard Banasik and Gerald Zak and niece Theresa Moore. Torrington - David A. Kulczyk, 67, passed away Friday, November 16, 2018, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital with his wife of 26 years by his side. He was the husband of Marla (Kiraly) Kulczyk. David was born March 31, 1951, in Gardner, MA, the son of the late Leon and Louise (Staveley) Kulczyk.
A graduate of WPI, Class of 1973, with a major in Mechanical Engineering, he moved to Torrington in 1973 to work for the Torrington Company. He worked with mostly automotive applications for 41 years, at the same company, even through several corporate acquisitions.
David loved cars and everything Corvette. He enjoyed his time at Queen Lake in Phillipson, Massachusetts as a child and at Highland Lake in Winsted, CT as an adult. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a step-son Jeremy Beecher and his wife Melissa, and his granddaughter Hannah Beecher; a sister Sally Bennett and her husband Paul of Westminster, MA; a brother Randy Kulczyk and his wife Kim of Gardner, MA; a sister Luanne (Kulczyk) Champagne and her husband Stephen of Athol, MA, as well as several nieces and nephews. TORRINGTON – Joyce D. Sikora, 80, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late William G. Sikora. Joyce was born in Torrington on March 4, 1938, daughter of the late Charles J. Ostrander and Dorris E. (Wootten) Ostrander, and had been a lifelong city resident.
In earlier years, she had been employed at the Torrington Co. and Mertz Department Store, and was later employed as a cashier in retail stores. Mrs. Sikora was a communicant of Trinity Episcopal Church and a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokols. She enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing and crocheting. Joyce loved all animals and was an avid supporter of many organizations that benefit animals. Survivors include a son, William Sikora and his wife Desaree, of Torrington; two daughters, Kim Sikora of Torrington, and Diane Sikora of Morris; four grandchildren, James Covill and his partner Tracy, Jackie Covill and her partner Leif, Kassie Grosjean and her husband Emerson, and Will Sikora and his wife Leesha; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. TORRINGTON – Mildred A Yarocki, 87, passed away Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the wife of the late George Yarocki. Mildred was born in Torrington on July 31, 1931, youngest daughter of the late Mildred (Hamilton) and Carl Avampato,
and was retired from the Torrington Co. She is survived by a son, Mark Andrews and daughter, Tracy Wuory; and grandchildren Chea and Austin LaMedica; great-grandchildren Keegan and Peyton LaMedica; and sisters Josephine DiMauro and Mary Grinvalsky. TORRINGTON – Martha (Hilzendegen) Colucci, 80, peacefully passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018, at Brandywine Senior Living. She was the wife of the late Vito Colucci. Martha was born July 27, 1938, in Ludwigshafen, Germany, daughter of the late Theodore and Dora (Badder) Hilzendegen.
She was employed by the Torrington Company in the inspection department until her retirement. A devoted mother and grandmother, she was a communicant of St. Peter Church. She is survived by two daughters, Jenny Holmes of Mohawk, N.Y., Patricia Ferraiolo of Naugatuck; a son, Vito Colucci of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. North Branford, CT - Gregory B. Howey, 76, husband of Barbara (Thompson) Howey, passed away Friday (December 14, 2018) at his home. Born in Sandwich, IL, son of the late Robert and Mavis (Jameson) Howey, he was raised in Sycamore, IL where he became an All State athlete and attended the University of Wisconsin on a football scholarship and was on the 1963 Rose Bowl team. After college, he received an MBA from Harvard Business School. Greg was President and Chairman of OKAY Industries in New Britain from 1990 to the present.
Previously, he was Executive Vice President of Insilco Corporation in Meriden and was a former Vice President of Ingersoll Rand Company and the Torrington Company where he spent 3 years running its operations in Portugal. Greg was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in New Britain and the Shuttle Meadow Country Club. He was active in the community, serving on many boards. Some of the things he was involved in included the American Savings Foundation, the Rogers Corporation, the Hospital for Special Care, New Britain General Hospital, the YMCA of New Britain and Berlin, the YWCA of New Britain and co-chaired New Britain's Ten Year Work Plan to End Homelessness which culminated in the opening of The Howey House in New Britain. He also formerly served on the boards of The American Savings Bank, the Institute of Technology & Business Development (ITBD), The Governor's Prevention Partnership, The United Way of New Britain and the Capitol Area, New Britain Chamber of Commerce, the Spencer Turbine Company and the YWCA of New Britain.Besides his wife Barbara, he leaves two sons, Jason Howey and his wife Terese of Branford and Jonathan Howey of Madison; a daughter, Danika Trautman of Fairfield; a brother, Robert Howey and his wife Mandy of Mequon, WI; 9 grandchildren, Samuel, William and Courtney Trautman; Gabrielle and Rachel Howey; Ashton, Andrew and Erik Howey; and Amanda Johnson; several nieces and nephews. Torrington- Beatrice I. Wilcox, 81, passed away Friday, December 21, 2018 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. She was the beloved wife of Harold E. Wilcox. Mrs. Wilcox was born in Torrington on August 22, 1937, daughter of the late Camille and Anita (Zucco) Bruttomesso, and had been a lifelong city resident.
She was a retired assembler with the Torrington Company, retiring with 35 years of service. Survivors, in addition to her husband, Harold, include two sons, Allen J. Domack of Torrington and Michael J. Domack of Stratford; a daughter, Lorraine A. Kane and her husband Peter of Thomaston; two brothers, John Celadon of Ormond Beach, FL, and Gino Celadon and his wife Rita of Torrington; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Wilcox was predeceased by a son, James E. Domack, and a sister, Annie Fiedorowicz. Harwinton - Derek Thaddeus Chambers, 46, passed away quietly, Tuesday, December 18th at his home. Derek was born in Torrington, CT May 25, 1972 to Warren Chambers and the late Gail (Baj) Kitchen. A 1990 graduate of Torrington High School,
he worked 17 years as a CNC machinist for the Torrington Company as well as various other jobs through the years. His pastimes included hiking, reading, fishing and writing short stories and poetry. An avid music buff, Derek enjoyed listening to several genres but always loved Led Zeppelin the most. Derek appreciated literal, dark, witty humor and was fascinated by history
and psychology. He is survived by his father Warren Chambers and step mother Pamela of New Hartford, sister Kim Winzler and her husband Mark of Goshen, an aunt Sharon Wilson of West Virginia and uncle Alan Chambers of New York as well as several cousins. He also leaves behind his best friend and ever faithful lab, Fletcher. Derek was predeceased by his mother Gail, aunt Theodora Baj of West Virginia as well as his beloved Golden Retriever, Moon. Torrington- Emilio P. Bossone, Sr., 91, passed away December 27, 2018 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington. He was the beloved husband of the late Katherine (Hurrey) Bossone. Mr. Bossone was born in Bristol on February 9, 1927, son of the late Carmine Bossone, Sr., and Anna (Pazinski) Bossone, and had been a Torrington resident for the past 60 years.
He was a U.S. Army Korean Conflict Veteran and was a retired machinist with the Torrington Company, retiring with over 30 years of service. Mr. Bossone was a communicant of St. Thomas of Villanova Church, Goshen, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Torrington Lodge of Elks. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and had a great love for all animals. Survivors include four children, Paula Bossone Frizzo and her husband Kenneth, Emilio P. Bossone, Jr., and his wife Sandi, Mary Bossone Kissko and her husband Darren, and Mark Bossone and his partner Tina Greive, all of Torrington; seven grandchildren, Samantha Kissko, Andrea Kissko, Matthew Kissko, Katherine Bossone, Samuel Bossone, Abigail Bossone, and Crystal Bossone; two great-grandchildren, Alesha Bossone and Xavier Bossone; three sisters-in-law, Ann Michalowski, Urania Stolicny, and Wilma “June” Hurrey, all of Torrington; several nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, "Jake". Mr. Bossone was predeceased by two sisters, Marcella Higgins and Mary Pagano, and a brother, Carmine Bossone, Jr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 4, 2019 at 11:00a.m. at St. Thomas of Villanova Church, 71 North St., Goshen.
