Gina Rigolli Solari Obituary said...

Danbury,CT - Gina Rigolli Solari died peacefully in Danbury on October 9, 2016, just shy of her 97th birthday. She was the wife of her loving husband, the late John Solari, and lived a full, energetic life in her Torrington home of 55 years. Gina was born November 14, 1919, in Vicannino, Italy, daughter of the late Ernesto Rigolli and Teresa (Secci) Rigolli. She came to America to build a better life for her family.

She worked at The Torrington Company as an Quality Inspector for 30 years and later retired to enjoy an active and happy life with her family. Gina is survived by her daughter, Joann and her husband Barry Gosselin of Danbury and her grandson, Jim and his lovely wife Becky, both teachers, whom she was very proud of. Her pride and joy were her three adoring great grandchildren, Nixon, Zoie, and Nash. She was their loving “Nonnie” and they spent wonderful quality time with her. She is also survived by one brother, Piero Rigolli, as well as one sister, Childe Cavaciutei. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lillian Solari. Gina was the most amazing woman that people have ever met. She was loved by everyone. Her family and friends respected and admired her and she always had company. She never let you leave her home empty-handed, whether it be with food, home grown vegetables or her wise advice. Her generosity knew no bounds. She was a voracious reader of two newspapers every day, as well as countless magazines. A fan of the political scene, she was always well versed about the hot topics of the day. Her passions in life were cooking, gardening and taking care of her family, whom she served homemade Italian dishes and her famous apple cake. She was the best there was. She was known for her gardening and even up until two months ago, she had the biggest, juiciest tomatoes in Torrington. She loved her beautiful garden and wonderful flowers. Gina was unbelievably strong and intelligent, a beautiful Mom and Nonnie. She was a blessing to her family and friends and will be dearly missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington. Burial will follow at St. Francis New Cemetery. Farmington - Eileen Nixon, 73, beloved wife of Allen M. Nixon, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on November 17th. Daughter of Arthur and Edith Ayen, she was born January 27, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA. She earned a nursing degree from Temple University and at that time shared many nights with cousins dancing on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. She also met Allen M. Nixon, her loving husband of 53 years and married him in 1963. She is survived by Allen, her four daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl Nixon and Tom Monroe of Providence, RI, Cynthia Nixon-Aly and Ahmed Aly of Springfield, NJ, Alyson and Matthew Bracken of Brookline, MA and Caryn and Kevin Brady of New Canaan, CT and the five grandchildren she adored, Own, Kathryn, Madelyn, Ayn and Jacquelyn. Eileen is remembered for her many talents and accomplishments. These include her work as an operating room nurse at UConn Health Center, running for first selectwoman in Burlington, CT (1985), being a Girl Scout leader and starting the AFS foreign exchange student program at Lewis B. Mills High School and hosting five foreign exchange students. She sat on the Board of Directors at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, CT, was head of the Memorials Committee at Memorial United Methodist Church in Avon, CT and for 12+ years she managed the estate and care of a mentally-challenged family member. Known for her enthusiastic embrace of life, she was an avid tennis player, skier, swimmer, golfer, ice skater and bicyclist. She enjoyed spending time on the beach and gardening at the special summer home she created for her children and grandchildren in Charleston, RI. She was talented in calligraphy, cooking, sewing, yoga and entertaining and made each of her grandchildren a hand-knit Christmas stocking, passing down the tradition her mother started. She and Allen travelled extensively, and she was fortunate to see all of the continents except Antarctica. A favorite trip was an all-family cruise to Bermuda for her and Allen’s 50th wedding anniversary. She was an active participant in Massachusetts General Hospital clinical studies for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), the disease from which she died. Friends may call at the Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main Street, Unionville, CT on Friday, December 2nd from 4 pm until 7 pm. Harwinton - Lawrence Abraham, 90, of Harwinton, CT, away Thursday, December 1, 2016, at Valerie Manor surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Carmella (Pedone) Abraham. Larry was born February 7, 1926, in Torrington, CT, son of the late Charles and Genevieve Abraham.

He was employed by the Torrington Company in the Shipping and Receiving Department until his retirement. He served his country with U.S. Army during the Korean War. An avid Red Sox and New York Giants fan, he enjoyed woodworking and was a jack of all trades. He loved his time spent with his children, grandkids, and just being with his family and friends. He is survived by three sons, Robert (Bernice) Abraham of Harwinton, Daniel (Cindy) Abraham of Torrington, Thomas Abraham and his girlfriend, Lauren Elias of Harwinton; seven grandchildren, Heather Abraham, Roxanne Abraham, Alan Abraham, Kelli Morales, Stephanie Zampaglione, Gage Abraham, Rylei Abraham; one great grandson, Jacob Abraham, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Yorker. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 5, 2016, with the cortege leaving at 10:00 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 78 Litchfield Road, Harwinton, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Francis New Cemetery with full military honors accorded.
