MELBOURNE,FL - Alice Kozlowski Palker, 83, of Melbourne, FL formerly of Torrington, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Wednesday, (December 1, 2010).
She is survived by her husband of 62 years Joseph (Bud), five children Tom Palker of Washington, DC, Patricia Roddy of Dublin, Ireland, Jane Cramphin of Simsbury, Jeff Palker of Aiken, SC, Joann Drennan of Mt. Pleasant, SC, brother Vincent Kozlowski of Torrington, and nine grandchildren.

Jeannette Hayes Obituary said...

THOMASTON — Mrs. Jeannette (Dery) Hayes left this earth peacefully, surrounded by all of her loving family, to be with Jesus, her son, Richard, and her once very large family on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of William Hayes Sr.

Jeannette was born on Jan. 10, 1938, in Waterbury, daughter of the late William and Olive (Houle) Dery. She was a communicant of St. Thomas Church in Thomaston. She had worked for the Torrington Co. for 30 years. Her interests included being with family and friends, traveling, especially to Hawaii and Florida, dancing, playing golf, bowling and many other activities.

In addition to her husband of 53 years, she is survived by her children, William Hayes Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Watertown, John Hayes and his wife, Debbie, of Thomaston; her grandchildren, Christine, Garrett, Justin Hayes and Seth Jenkins; great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Kaleigh; brother, Bill Dery of Waterbury; sister, Rosemary Kozlowsky of Thomaston, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be extremely missed by all of her family.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Bowen and his staff for all of their efforts.

Arrangements: Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Church in Thomaston. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, Dec. 13, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High St., Thomaston.

Beverly Bovi Obituary said...

WATERBURY — Mrs. Beverly (Ashcraft) Bovi passed away on Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, surrounded by her loving and devoted family at Waterbury Hospital.

Mrs. Bovi was born Feb. 23, 1927, in Natchez, Miss., daughter of the late Lonnie and Lina (Demaree) Ashcraft. She had been employed for over 20 years at the Torrington Co. in Torrington. She enjoyed gardening, reading and movies but mostly loved being with her family.

She is survived by three sons, Wayne Bovi and his wife, Colleen (Manning), of Sandown, N.H., Jeffrey Bovi and his wife, Louisa (Monti-Bovi), of Waterbury and Alan Bovi and his wife, Nancy (Hovren), of Shorewood, Minn.: and three devoted grandchildren, Max Monti-Bovi of Waterbury and Andrea and Gina Bovi of Minnesota. She also leaves many nieces and nephews along with close friends whose lives she deeply touched.

The family would like to thank Waterbury Hospital for the kind and helpful care provided to Beverly.

There will be no calling hours and a memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. The Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St., is in charge of arrangements.

Dana Gowen Obituary said...

BAKERVILLE - Dana Loomis Gowen died January 12, 2011, at his home in Bakerville, at age 89. He was the widower of Barbara Shirley Zipfel, who passed away in 2008. Dana was born April 14, 1921, in Bellows Falls, Vt., the elder son of Abbie Hutchinson and Harry Blanchard Gowen of Acworth, N.H., where Dana was raised on the family dairy farm. After graduating from Vilas High School, he obtained a B.S. from Boston University in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army 1942 through 1944. He married Barbara in Laramie, Wyo., on February 12, 1944. They settled in Bakerville where they raised their four children. At the time of Barbara's death, they had been married over 64 years.
Dana spent almost his entire working career with The Torrington Company in Torrington, first as an accountant and later rising to tax manager and assistant treasurer. He was a member of and former president of the Tax Executives Institute. He also served for many years on the New Hartford Board of Finance and the Regional High School #7 School Board. He retired in 1982, and spent his retirement with Barbara travelling through the United States and Europe. They both had a special interest in family genealogy.
Dana was best known locally as the Musical Director of the Goshen Players from the 1950s through the 1970s. He was the piano accompaniment to numerous annual musical productions by the Players, and he maintained his musical interests and piano skills until his death. He was also a long-time member of several fraternal and patriotic organizations, including the Masonic Temple, the Sons of the American Revolution, the Society of the Cincinnati, the Descendants of Ancient Windsor, the Order of the Founders & Patriots of America, the Society of the War of 1812, the General Society of Colonial Wars, and the Sons of Union Veterans, among others.
Dana was predeceased by his sister, Natalie Gowen Hurley, in 2009. He is survived by four children: Dana Gowen II of Orlando, Fla., Rebecca Gowen of Baltimore, Md., Phoebe Gowen Bishop (and husband, John) of San Diego, Calif., and Milan Gowen (and partner, Tami Millard) of Torrington; four grandchildren: Eugene Gowen of East Hartford, Caroline Gowen of Maitland, Fla., Seth Bishop (and wife, Jennifer) of San Diego, Calif., and Leslie Bishop Starr (and husband Jason) of San Diego, Calif.; his brother, Gordon Gowen (and wife, Betty) of Acworth, N.H.; and six nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at the Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield. Burial will be private. Friends and family may call on Saturday from 12 noon to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Simsbury,CT - Anthony "Tony" Wayne Steere, 5/14/1927 - 1/31/2011,
With heavy hearts, our loving Tony has passed away unexpectedly playing tennis, his favorite sport. He was the son of the late Edith Bowen and Samuel A. Steere of Bath, OH. He was predeceased by two of his brothers, Samuel Steere and Joseph Steere, and has two surviving brothers, Kenneth and Richard Steere. He leaves behind his surviving beloved wife, Alice G. (Popielarczyk) Steere, of 19 years, and is predeceased by his first wife and mother of his five children, Martha Cappers Steere of 34 years.
Tony graduated from hillips/Andover, MA and joined the U.S. Navy in 1945. After being Honorably Discharged from the US Navy, he attended Yale University for two years, transferred and graduated with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Bowling Green State University, and received his MBA from Case Western Reserve of OH. He was hired by Alcoa, as an Industrial Engineer; later worked for Wyman-Gordon in MA, in transportation, and retired from The Torrington Company (CT) as Director of International Transportation. For a short period after retirement, he worked for The Hartford as an accountant, and went on to start his own business in Home Repair. Tony held a real estate license as well as taught Senior Drivers Safety Classes for AARP. Tony loved his children and was very active in their lives as their Cub Scout/Boy Scout Leader; a member of the Lion's Club, and worked with the Junior Achievement Youth Group. Always was very giving of himself, was an active member of West Avon Congregational Church for many years; served as a Deacon, Choir Member, involved in Pastoral Partners and lead Prayer Services at Avon Health Center. The Arts always interested Tony. He volunteered at Hartford Stage and The Bushnell and was a season ticket holder for The Goodspeed Opera House; He also taught caning at The Highland Museum in Truro, MA and recently took classes in threshing chairs. Tony was also a master craftsman working with wood, enjoyed antiquing; entertaining friends and family at his lovely homes. He had a great sense of humor, was very competitive in sports, cards, and chess, and loved his sweets, "Dessert First!" The adventure never ended travelling worldwide, yet he was perfectly happy in Simsbury, Florida getting away from the cold and summers at "Windy Dunes", Truro MA. Dadjo will be greatly missed by his loving children Abbey "Debbie" and Gary Koutnik, Rebecca "Becky" and Andy Kurt Palmisano, "Pam"ela Schubert-Bob, Anthony "Andy" and Leigh Steere, David and Jody Steere, Jay Popielarczyk, David and Marie Popielarczyk, Kevin and Jennifer Popielarczyk, and Amy Popielarczyk. "Peepaw we love you", your grandchildren: Garrett and Elizabeth Schubert, Peter and Carrie Schubert, Heidi Schubert, Keith and Erica Palmisano, Sarah, Gracie, Patrick and Christine Palmisano, Randall, and Whitsun Koutnik, Sami, Alex, Cole, Isaac, Anna, and Elliott Steere, and Nathan, Joshua, Alicia, Sean, Sara, and Madison Popielarczyk. Torrington -Suzanne L. Foley, 76, died Sunday, February 6th, 2011 at Wolcott Hall.
Suzanne was born in Torrington, CT on May 29, 1934, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Zavatkay) Lucas.
She worked as a bookkeeper at The Torrington Co.
She leaves her daughter, Michelle Foley of Pembroke NH and her children Rebecca and Samantha Warner, and two sisters, Rita Rosenbeck and husband William and Donna Broggi and husband Eugene, several nieces and nephews.

Robert Tofield Obituary said...

FT. MYERS, Fla. - Robert E. Tofield, 87 passed away Feb. 4, 2011, at Hope Hospice in Ft. Myers, Fla. Born in Torrington, Nov. 11, 1923, he was the son of the late Robert and Martha (Jasch) Tofield. A life-long resident of Torrington, he moved to Florida nine years ago.
Robert was employed by the Torrington Company for forty years.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was active with various basketball teams.
He leaves his long-time friend and companion Adaline "Skip" Tofield of Ft. Myers, with whom he made his home. He was predeceased by two sisters, Bernice and Ethel Tofield.

LITCHFIELD - Charles E. Horne, 79, of Litchfield, passed away on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Barbara "Bobbie" Keedle Horne.
He was born July 16, 1931, in Worcester, Mass., to the late Roland D. and Millicent (Wilder) Horne.
He was a graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Chuck served in the United States Army, worked in the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey and later retired from the Torrington Co. after 40 years. He served on the Board of Directors and was a volunteer for the Connecticut Volunteer Services for the Blind and Handicapped.
In addition to his wife, Chuck is survived by a daughter, Catherine A. Horne, and daughter-in-law, Rosemary McBride, of Quaker Hill; a son, David B. Horne of Concord, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Betsy Schmid and husband, John, and Constance Keedle; four grandchildren, Hayley Schmid, Evan Schmid, Carter Manos, and Griffin Manos; a brother-in-law, John Seguin; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife of 46 years, Ann Seguin Horne, a brother, Bradford Horne, and a sister, Audrey Stone.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 at First Congregational Church of Litchfield, 21 Torrington Road, Litchfield.

TORRINGTON - Carmen Moscaritolo Jr., 87, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, following a brief illness. He was the husband of 60 years of Arlene (Gillman) Moscaritolo.

Born in Torrington on June 17, 1924, he was a son of the late Carmen and Philomena (Silano) Moscaritolo. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War and retired from the Torrington Company after 35 years. He was an avid bowler and fisherman.

In addition to his wife, Arlene, he is also survived by a daughter, Shirley Rogers and her husband, William, of Torrington; a son, Thomas Moscaritolo of Watertown; two grandsons, Kenneth Moscaritolo of Meriden and Gregg Moscaritolo and his wife, Ashley, of Oxford; three brothers, Louis, Michael and Raymond Moscaritolo; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2012, at Nutting-Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Torrington. Visiting hours are from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home prior to the service.

South Lyon, MI - "Tommy" Thomas P. Harrison, 48, died suddenly Thursday, September 23, 2010 at his home in South Lyon, Michigan. Tom was born in Pittsfield,MA on February 4th, 1962, a son of Elizabeth A. Wheeler Harrison and the late William F. Harrison, who died in 1984. He graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1980 and from Western New England College in 1984 with a degree in Business Administration and Management.
He worked at General Electric Company in Ordinance Systems until 1987 and as a Senior Buyer at Varian Incorporated until 1989. His career transitioned to The Torrington Company in Connecticut where he was employed as a Product Manager and Field Engineer until 2003 when his position transferred to The Timken Company in Detroit, Michigan, where he consulted within the automobile industry and the Ford and GM Motor Companies.
Tom was devoted to his three children and a very proud father. He was quick to smile, eager to please and loved to laugh. His passion for soccer and football extended from the high school playing fields to his college soccer days, to coaching his children and cheering for his favorite Michigan team along with the Patriots. Tom leaves his three children; Colleen, Courtney "CJ", and William, "Billy" of South Lyons. He also leaves his Mother, Elizabeth Harrison of Pittsfield, and his four siblings, Dennis & Annie Harrison of Manchester, N.H., Shaun and Patricia Harrison of Mansfield, Theresa & Dan Bianchi of Pittsfield and Brian & Kathleen Harrison of West Newbury, Mass. Tom will be missed by all who knew him, and loved for eternity.
